Time and place. The meeting was conducted at 12 noon in on USF Tampa in EDU 257 and on Zoom.

Minutes. July 17 minutes approved.

Attendance. Eighteen members and seven guests.

Recognition. The Chapter recognized retiring activists and members Vic Peppard and Steve Permuth for their years of service.

President’s Report.

  • Certification. We will probably have to be continually collecting SOI cards until the law requiring annual recertification elections is overturned.
  • Fellows Program. Discussion.
  • Doors inventory. Several staff, including campus police, are conducting an “inventory” of doors for “safety”. No one knows what this means – including Academic Affairs. The only known consequence so far is that one faculty member had a wall file holder mounted on his door removed (while another staffer who had a wall file holder mounted on the wall next to her door was not removed).
  • Fall Schedule. A schedule was presented to the chapter and adjusted per the following motion:
    • Motion made and seconded that the August 29 meeting be rescheduled to for September 5. Motion passes unanimously.

    Comments:

    • Sometime early this semester, we will be visited by UFF President Robert Cassenello.
    • Anyone who desires to attend the UFF Senate meeting as a guest should contact either President Lang or the secretary, Greg McColm.

This schedule is subject to change.

  • Committees for Fall 2025. We need a chair for the Bargaining Committee and volunteers for the Government Relations and Publicity Committees.
  • Days of Action. We will call for faculty attendance at the Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 9 and the Bargaining Session on Sept. 10.
  • New College v. USF Sarasota / Manatee. A second attempt by NCF to incorporate USFSM appears to be in the works.

Reports.

  • Membership. We are planning for fall.
  • Collective Bargaining. Bargaining is slow, and we hope to spur it with a Day of Action.
  • <.b>Grievances and Contract Enforcement. There is a push to require faculty to be in their offices during business hours. This is already being imposed on librarians. Grievance training is on July 14, at 4:30, online.
